Sometimes, that sugar craving can get the better of us and what starts off as one piece of chocolate, turns into the whole bar and some ice cream to go with it. It’s annoying how all that just accidentally falls into your mouth isn’t it?
How can I keep enjoying my sweet or sugar cravings without being super unhealthy?
You have to treat yourself sometimes – life would be boring without a bit of cake! But it’s controlling the intake of that really unhealthy cake, and eating in consideration. There are lots of healthy recipes you can try if you’re like me and have a sweet tooth!
Surely if they are healthy, they can’t be very tasty?
It’s easy to think that healthy foods are boring and tasteless but not everything is! I’m going to share with you our top 3 healthy dessert’s which should take care of all those sugar cravings that set you back. I find all my favourite dishes online as it’s super easy and gives you step by step instructions. They are all super tasty and full of flavour too!
Sticky toffee puddings – low fat!
For this recipe, you will need:
- 175g dried dates- use raisins or something similar if you’re not a fan of dates!
- 150ml maple syrup
- 2 eggs – make sure you separate the egg whites from the egg yolks
- 85g self-raising flour
- 1tbsp vanilla extract
You can use extra maple syrup and Greek yoghurt to serve as well but that is completely up to you. This whole recipe only has 4g of fat in- how fab! The only source of sugar is of the maple syrup and the fruit you choose as well so you won’t be adding any extra. If you want to have a go at making this, you can follow the instructions on the following website: https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/3070/guiltfree-sticky-toffee-puds
Lemon, Almond & Blueberry Gateaux
For this recipe, you will need:
- 4 eggs
- 200g golden caster sugar
- 75g plain flour
- 50g ground almonds
- 15g toasted flaked almonds
- 225g blueberries
- 500 0% fat Greek yoghurt
- 1tsp Vanilla extract
- 3-4 tbsp maple syrup
- Zest ½ lemon
So this is actually one of my favourites! It is low in fat again (only 5g!) and the sugar content mainly comes naturally from the fruits. You don’t have to use blueberries either, you can use any fruit such as strawberries or raspberries to change it up a bit.
