Recipe – A Healthy Snack

By: Louise Rigby

I’m going to let you in on a little secret…

My favourite healthy snack recipe!

No only is it packed with lots of vitamins, minerals and nutrients it is also super tasty! I don’t claim to be the next Jamie Oliver but I have found throwing all this in a bowl is an amazing snack and ticks all the right boxes for me.

Ingredients:

  • 3 tablespoons of Icelandic style yoghurt e.g. Skyr yoghurt
  • 4 Red grapes
  • ½ a teaspoon of Spirulina
  • 4  Almonds

Icelandic style yoghurt

Icelanding yoghurt

I first came across this yoghurt while on holiday in Iceland and every since I have been totally hooked! Traditional Icelandic yoghurt is ultra thick with a velvety smooth texture and is super yummy. Icelandic yoghurt is high in protein, calcium and extremely low in fat and also contains gut-friendly probiotic bacteria.

Red grapes

Red grapes

Having a regular intake of fruit and veg has been associated with a number of health benefits including a reduced risk of coronary heart disease, diabetes, cancer along with many other conditions. Grapes hold special components which make them a “super food”. Grapes contain antioxidants, natural anti-inflammatories, fibre and potassium.

Spirulina

Spirulina

Spirulina is a natural algae that can be bought in a green/bluish powder. Although eating algae sounds a bit strange spirulina contains so many micronutrients you have to give it a try! Also regarded as a “superfood” spirulina is extremely high in protein, around 65% approximately which makes it a perfect food supplement after a hard session at the gym. Spirulina also contains omega 3s 6s and 9s, iron, antioxidants and calcium. Spirulina is also high in micronutrients such as vitamin B6, C, D and A, potassium, copper, magnesium and zinc.

Almonds

Almonds

Almonds can be extremely beneficial to your health. Almonds are a rich source of many antioxidants, minerals and vitamins that together are great for regulating cholesterol, blood pressure, bone health and are great for skin care and your immune system. Almonds are able to promote all the above health benefits because they contain fibre, protein, vitamin E, riboflavin and phosphorus.

Hope you all enjoy this snack as much as I do!!!!Fierce Fit trainer using resistant bands and movement
