Let’s Get Physical…. and Psychological

By: Louise Rigby

Everyone knows that exercise is good for you, it’s a given! However, when promoting exercise people tend to focus on the physical benefits. This means, the motivation to exercise tends to focus on how exercise can help you achieve the body you’ve always wanted, help you towards fitting in to those jeans you’ve long grown out of, or how exercise can increase your physical health like reducing your blood pressure.

The physical stuff is all well and good, but often the biggest benefits of exercise that are majorly overlooked are the psychological benefits.

Exercise is a great way to enhance your psychological wellbeing and improve your overall quality of life. Here at FierceFit we aim to create healthier, happier woman through the encouragement of exercise and the different benefits it has.

I know when I’m having a bad day and I feel gloomy from sitting indoors on the computer, going for a run or walk is just what I need. Exercise is a great way to clear your mind and destress, whilst also improving your mood and energy levels after a busy day.

Exercise is also a great way to get that confidence boost you need in life. One of the main aims here is to increase your body confidence and overall health. One way to do this is through Pilates which focuses on breathing techniques and becoming aware of your movements. Just one of the many ways to unwind and get a workout at the same time.

Some of the major psychological benefits from exercising include:

Social support – Exercise gets you out and about interacting with people just like you. Joining group exercise sessions or a team based sport is a great way to make new friends and motivate one another.

Improved confidence and body image Exercise will not only help you look fierce, but it’s going to make you feel fierce too! Engaging in exercise will start to help you feel confident in yourself and your ability to take on challenges you never imagined yourself doing before.

Reduced stress and anxietyAnother fantastic outcome of exercise is that it is a great way of escaping the hustle and bustle of day to day life. Exercise is a way to help manage stress levels. It’s important to remember that you’re exercising both your body and mind.

Improved sleepAfter a workout all you want is your bed, but after running and jumping your body will thank you for the well-deserved beauty sleep. Exercise helps to reduce the amount of time it takes you to fall asleep therefore increasing the amount of sleep you get.

Improved mood and mental health Chances are that exercising regularly will make you feel better and sometimes even going out for a walk can help enhance your mood. Exercise is also often prescribed as a treatment to alleviate the symptoms of depression.

Exercise is so much more than what meets the eye, it is a fantastic way to look after your entire body, both physically and mentally!

You’ll be feeling on top of the world in no time, so what have you got to lose? Go out, get fit…get Fierce Fit!
